“4-Orbit” Chronometer, Model 221

Desription

This very rare chronometer was the first genuine "4-orbit" model 221 marine chronometer produced, s#4E001, of only 27 made by the factory in total. Two-day fusee mechanism with spring detent chronometer escapement, AMAC balance and helical HS combination, regulator-style dial with separate minute, hour, date, winding indicator and seconds dials, the four “orbits” being the hour, seconds, date, and sweep minute dials. The chronometer comes in its original inner and outer boxes, the inner now with label for the Northwest Instrument Corporation.

Hamilton Watch Co. re-tooled during World War II to produce chronometers of exceptional quality for the war effort.
