Basket Top Mantel Clock

Jones, Henry (1642–1695)

London, circa 1690

Desription

An English mantel clock by one of the eminent clockmakers of the late 17th century, exhibiting classic English style and features: the finely pierced gilt-brass “basket top”, finely pierced and chased escutcheons on the black ebony case; finely cast and chased flambeau finials adorn the top four corners. The backplate of the movement is elegantly engraved with a symmetrical pattern of tulips and foliage centered on the oval signature cartouche, signed, Henry Jones in the Temple, referring to his business location.
