Brass Mantel Clock

Philip, Robert

London, circa 1780

Desription

This small brass mantel clock has distinctive features favored by Robert Philip: applied swags, a shingled pagoda-like top and his distinctively shaped elongated side pieces. The arch contains subsidiary dials for calendar and phases of the moon, with a revolving enamel and paste-set globe in the arch. A unique enameled disk is at the top of the arch, depicting the passage of the sun and moon.
