Brass Quarter-Striking Mantel Clock

Philip, Robert

London, circa 1780

Desription

This case closely resembles that of a gilded copper pavilion globe clock in the Forbidden City Collection. The case is possibly Chinese-made. Both clocks possess applied swags, elegantly shaped feet, a shingled pagoda-like top and distinctly shaped side pieces. The back plate is engraved with floral sprigs and the maker’s signature.
