Electrically Driven Table Regulator

System Brillié

France, circa 1890

Desription

A fine electrically driven precision table regulator, according to System Brillié, with iron zinc grid pendulum with magnet.

Fery, in France, modified the electromagnetic motor system by using a fixed impulse coil without a core, through which a permanent magnet attached to the pendulum oscillates. This system was widely used in France by Brillié, ATO and others. The same principle is used by the Bulle-Clock that employs, by contrast, a coil fixed to the pendulum and a magnet fixed on the movement or baseboard. Bulle clocks were popular domestic clocks in the 1920’s. While not as well known as Bulle electric clocks, Brillié clock systems were popular in France in the first half of the 20th century but were rarely used in the English speaking world.
