Gilt-Bronze Cartel Clock

Clockmaker: Le Noir, Etienne; Bronzier: CaffiƩri, Jacques (1678-1755)

France, circa 1745

Desription

An exquisite example of a cartel clock at the height of the Louis XV Rococo style. The case contains red painted metal sheets for maximum accent against the opulent gilt-bronze. The asymmetrically shaped case is adorned with finely cast gilt-bronze flowers and shells in the Rococo style. The 13-piece dial contains decoratively shaped enamel cartouches for the numerals, and a center enameled plaque signed, Le Noir a Paris.
