Desription
This early clock has a single hour hand, touch pieces and calibrated I-XII and 13-24 concentric alarm disc. A quarter hour dial is exhibited below, the reverse with a strike indication dial with touch pieces above a painted circular armorial plaque. The iron posted movement was the type used in this early period of domestic clocks. The sides are engraved with an astronomer and a representation of Astrologia within foliate scrolls and strapwork. Front and rear panels are similarly engraved. The interior of the left panel is signed Hans Gruber 1568 with maker's shield mark HG above crossed spades. The base plate is engraved with maker's mark and similarly dated.
