Grande Sonnerie Biedermeier Vienna Regulator

Creator unknown

Vienna, circa 1850

Desription

An excellent example of a grande sonnerie Viennese Biedermeier regulator. Rosewood case with ebonized mounts and finials and ebonized long barley twist columns on the sides.

The two-piece enamel dial with gilded pie crust bezel became a hallmark of the Biedermeier style Vienna regulator, with an often more ornate bezel encircling the outer dial and an inner bezel around the enamel inset.

The eight-day weight driven grande sonnerie movement strikes the quarters on gongs. The wheelwork is of the usual high quality.
