Grande Sonnerie Laterndluhr
Lahr, Franz
Vienna, Circa 1825
Desription
An attractive mahogany cased laterndluhr of typical form, and a thin, elegant appearance.
The two-piece silvered brass dial is particularly attractive. The chapter ring is signed, F. Lahr in Wien. The center of the dial is nicely engraved with floral and foliate motifs, with an unusual ribbon shaped cartouche below the numeral XII.
The eight day grande sonnerie movement has a Graham-type deadbeat escapement, maintaining power and strikes the hours and quarters on two gongs mounted on the seat board. There is a beat adjustment to the crutch.
Franz Lahr died in 1829. His exact dates of production are unknown.
