Grande Sonnerie Laterndluhr of Eight-Day

Fertbauer, Phillip

Vienna, Circa 1815

Desription

A highly important early Viennese Laterndluhr by this innovative maker. The stately mahogany case has a removable hood. The ebony strung trunk door lifts out. Pendulum box has a sliding door.
The half moon-shaped bottom piece is typical of the early Laterndluhrs and Fertbauer in particular. The dial contains day, date and seconds subsidiary dials.

The eight-day grande sonnerie movement strikes on two bells mounted on the backplate. It employs Fertbauer’s escapement. Superb quality work throughout. The round steel rod pendulum is typical of Fertbauer.
