Grande Sonnerie Skeleton Table Regulator

Detouche, Constantin Louis (1810–1889)

France, circa 1865

Desription

An elegant and technically sophisticated skeleton clock, with grande sonnerie striking (striking the hours and half hours on three unusual glass bells). Enamel dial is signed, C. Detouche A Paris, with a subsidiary
seconds dial. Regulator features include the gridiron pendulum and temperature-compensation visible through the bob and fine beat adjustment. An impressive and rare piece. Detouche was a fine and ingenious maker of the Restoration period.

Napoleon made him Furnisher to the Emperor. He devised many interesting horological mechanisms in association with Robert Houdin, Brisbard Gobert and Oudin. He took an early interest in electrical
horology and in 1851 patented an electro-magnetic clock.
