Imperial Style Clock with Music and Automata

Unknown

China

Desription

A magnificent tribute-style clock with an astounding thirty separate automata functions. Nine paste gem trees spin, including the top finial. The drum top contains a wheel with ten spinning paste gem rosettes surrounding the multi-colored spinning center. The drum top sits on four gilt-bronze supports which enclose spiral glass rods simulating a waterfall. The dial is on a blue enamel plate with flowers, with red and clear paste gems on the bezel.

The front and two sides of the base have outer painted scenes: spiral glass rods twirl vertically to simulate a waterfall that forms the background, and horizontally to simulate a running stream, as ducks jump in and out of the water.

Eight-day fusee movement operates the clock, music, and automata functions.
