A fine mantel clock in red japanned case. The silvered chapter ring is signed, Stephen Rimbault. A silvered seconds dial appears in the arch. Musical movement by a fine English maker.
Stephen (or John Stephen) Rimbault was an excellent London maker, working from 1745–1785. He was renowned for his fine musical clocks, often for the Spanish market and the Asian markets as well. His works are in fine collections, including the Forbidden City Museum in Beijing.
