Month-Duration Longcase Regulator with Equation of Time and Year Calendar

Movement: Lepaute, Jean-Joseph (1768–1846) (Movement); Dial: Dubuisson, Etienne (1731–after 1815)

France, Circa 1815

Desription

This regulator is the height of stately elegance, together with the finest French horology of its time. The white enamel is encased within an ormolu bezel, with outer year calendar, fine pierced and engraved ormolu hour and solar minute hands, blued steel mean minute, seconds hand and date pointer, and calendar regulation arbor below VI. The dial is signed 2/580/Dub, also signed D... to front lower edge for Dubuisson.

A massive spring-suspended nine-rod bimetallic gridiron pendulum appears in the glass door of the trunk, with rating below its brass bob, suspended from the front plate and with brass signature plaque for J.J. Lepaute/HORLOGER DE L'EMPEREUR, also with temperature indication shown via blued steel needle against an enamel plaque, and with fine regulation to the crutch, swinging against an enamel beat scale mounted to the lower trunk. An inverted deadbeat pinwheel escapement drives the pendulum.
The movement is signed, J.J. Lepaute à Paris.
