Paddle-Wheel Ball-Driven Clock with Thermometer and Aneroid Barometer
Unknown
France, circa 1890
Desription
This very rare ball-driven clock is identical to one presented at the Exposition Universelle of 1900. It has a glass dial and a three-wheel train. The small steel balls in the paddle-wheel drive the system. The balls, after dropping from the paddle-wheel, are guided to the base of the tower on the left. This tower acts as an elevator, lifting them in a series of buckets and then once again placing them on top of the paddle-wheel.
