The three panels of this window feature brightly plumed birds perched on flowering branches; the branches flow from one panel to the next making obvious the order in which the panels should be displayed. The brilliant use of color and texture bring to life the window. The same vibrant bird seems to appear in all three panels—first at rest, then accosted by another bird, and finally primping its feathers.
This window is reminiscent of Tiffany’s Parakeets and Gold Fish Bowl window, which met with great acclaim at the 1893 Columbian Exposition and is now in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
Tiffany frequently featured flamingoes, parrots, peacocks, and parakeets in floral windows commissioned for residences.
