Albany, New York, circa 1865
Desription
The gilt-iron and glass case with full-length glass doors front and back, with the front marked in gold leaf “Observatory Time.” The glass front and back indicate that the case may have originally housed a two-sided dial, as exhibited in similar clocks by Fasoldt. The top has a wooden box which protects the pendulum T-bridge suspension. The impressive glass dial with clear center is mounted on the bottom of the case has a silvered seconds ring, chapter ring, and brass bezel. The shaped plate movement is marked on the front plate great wheel bridge H. Eckert Troy N.Y./C. Fasoldt's Patent March 7, 1865. The clock was made for H. Eckert to special order. The eight-day duration movement has a three-pulley configuration for the inverted dial. Two-jar mercury temperature-compensating pendulum is customary for Fasoldt.
