Silverwork

Silver pieces by Tiffany are rare. He preferred to work in base metals over precious metals. Thus, he often worked in bronze but rarely in silver. He began to use silver and gold more after his father’s death in 1902. Our unique silver octagonal covered box (c. 1905) has raised ornamentation, including a row of raised enameled squares on the lid. It was made by Tiffany Furnaces. Tiffany Studios received production support from Tiffany Furnaces, Inc. (1902–1919) and Louis C. Tiffany Furnaces, Inc. (1920–1928).
