Rome of Albany, New York, circa 1860
Desription
The ebonized iron and glass case is surmounted by a walnut cornice. The front door opens for access to the movement, weight, and pendulum. The glass dial is signed C. Fasoldt/1890 with delicate moon hour and minute hands and brass bezel. The movement attaches to the backboard-mounted mirrored iron bracket with two tie-downs, knurled nuts for plate attachment, maintaining power mounted on the great wheel, five-wheel train with single escape wheel, jeweled locking arm and pendulum stirrup with beat setting adjustment, all powered by a cylindrical brass compounded weight and regulated by a mercury-filled, temperature-compensating steel cylinder and hollow steel pendulum rod.
