Skeleton Clock in the Form of Brighton Pavilion

Smith & Sons, John (attrib.)

England, circa 1860

Desription

The ornately engraved silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals has a finely pierced foliate border, pierced steel hands, and a silvered signature plaque for the retailer, Thos. Whipp Rochdale. The two-train fusee movement striking on a gong has a deadbeat escapement. The finely pierced brass frame is in the form of the Brighton Pavilion, flanked by gilt brass lions and surmounted by an eagle, raised on a velvet covered oval base on an ebonized plinth.
