Summer Concert
Dietrich, Thomas
Appleton, Wisconsin, 1942
Desription
This outstanding work depicts summer concertgoers at a park. They sit in various, mostly languid positions under massive shade trees. There are individuals and there are couples. Two lovers walk
dreamily into the distance in the deep background. Romance is in the air. Once again, Dietrich has captured an idyllic natural setting. In this case, it is peopled with figures enjoying a summer evening
filled with music. As a Regionalist artist, Dietrich painted what he saw around him, representing the finer qualities of small-town life.
