Princeps Company
London, England, circa 1923
Desription
The Princeps Clock was the invention of Major. C. E. Prince O.B.E., M.I.E.E., who was the officer in charge of the Experimental Wireless section of the RAF during World War I and subsequently on the research staff of the Marconi Company. He patented this clock in 1922 and then opened his business in London in 1923. Very few clocks were produced in the early years, making this example extremely rare. Around 1926, The Princeps Company was acquired by The Telephone Manufacturing Company, who modified the design to be easier to manufacture and called it "The Princeps New System". Numerous modifications were made. The result was a quite different clock, although the principle of operation was similar.
