“Violin” Mantel Clock

Thomas, Seth (1785–1859)

Original made in Thomaston, Connecticut, circa 1885; Reproduction circa 1975

Desription

Very few of these lovely violin-shaped clocks were made by Seth Thomas and may have been a special order. In the 1970’s, original Seth Thomas movements and parts were used to make replicas of these unusual clocks and placed in contemporary cases. These cases were extremely well-made, paying homage to Seth Thomas’ ingenuity and artistry. This example has an eight-day Seth Thomas brass movement, alarm, and gong in an exceptional walnut case.
