Year-Duration Laterndluhr

Lehrner, Franz (Master, 1800–1846)

Vienna, circa 1825

Desription

An excellent example of the pinnacle of the Viennese clockmaker’s skill. Mahogany veneered 9 light* case. White enamel dial displays multiple complications: 12-hour Roman numeral dial for time
display, Arabic numeral dial with 24-hour display and days of the week; subsidiary seconds dial at the top of dial, the seconds hand revolving once every 2 minutes; aperture with phases and age of the
moon at the bottom of the dial. Calendar is displayed at the dial perimeter. Brass movement runs 10-12 months on a single winding.

*Light refers to the number of panes of glass on the Viennese regulator cases. In this example, the two sides and front of the hood are three panes; the two sides and front of the trunk have two panes of glass each, which equals 6 panes, hence the 9 light designation.
